Songs with a Story

While I learn how to upload videos to my blog that I've been working on I thought I'd share some of my ideas for my constructed worlds and narrative project. We must somehow tell a story through our photos whether it be based off a book, song, or even your imagination. In this case I have chosen to tell a story through a song. I have a few that I've decided to pick from:

Angel - Flipsyde

You're the light at the end of the tunnel the break of the day

After the darkest night chasing all the evil away

You're my flowers and sunshine cherries and red wine

Diamonds they can't find shining through hard times

You're the angel on Earth the proof there's a God

The reason to keep on going you're my light in the dark

The first star in the sky and the last to leave

And when I'm travelin' through the night I feel your light on me

Here We Stand - Amber Pacific

We will make it through

No matter the cost

We've gone this far

Why not find out how it works out for you and me

We'll make it through

I thought we were lost

But somehow we haven't found a way yet

I hope that we never do

Swing Life Away - Rise Against

We live on front porches and swing life away,

We get by just fine here on minimum wage

If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,

I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand....until you hold my hand

Cinderella - Steven Curtis Chapman

So I will dance with Cinderella

While she is here in my arms

'Cause I know something the prince never knew

Oh, I will dance with Cinderella

I don't want to miss even one song

'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight

And she'll be gone...

Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

I will never let you fall (let you fall)

I'll stand up with you forever

I'll be there for you through it all (through it all)

Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Reason Unknown

This past weekend my volleyball team and I played in Ithaca for our second Empire 8 tournament. Along the way I found myself looking out the window for extended periods of time. So for my first video I decided to film what I saw for that time. I wasn't really sure what I was looking at or if I was even looking at anything at all. These are my times of solitude, times I can just think without other people cutting in. It's amazing to sort through all the things that can go through one's mind.

Distraction

Registration is coming up at the beginning of next week and it's nothing less than stressful. Normally my time between noon and one are spent eating while I wait for my ride. Today I spent this time looking over every possible schedule I could create for next quarter. So after working at it for an hour I took a break and found some interesting subjects.

Final Film Prints

When printing in the dark room make sure you...

... don't open your bag/box on the way to the developer...
... don't put in the paper the wrong way...
... don't have it set on focus when it should be set to print...

Brick City

This weekend was filled with tons of events. Yesterday my room mate and I managed to attend several different sporting events. Needless to say today (Sunday) is a day of doing absolutely nothing. We had practice at 6:30am and then went over to watch the crew races. From there we watched half of the mens' soccer game, went to our (volleyball) alumni game, went back outside to the soccer stadium to watch the girls' soccer game. Then to finish off the day we went to Blue Cross Arena to watch Mens' Hockey.

Simen Johan

For a presentation we are doing in my Elements photo class we were given a photographer to research. I was given Simen Johan. His work is a little dark for me, but the concept behind them is a masterpiece. He constructs different photographs illustrating the different psychological events of childhood. One of his most successful galleries is "Evidence of Things Unseen."

Potential Landscapes

My current assignment in my photography course involves picturing landscapes that have been in some way interrupted by man made creations. I rode my friend's bike home today and I believe I found some potential subjects.

Dark Room Round 2

As my classmates and I continue using the dark rooms we start to become more familiar with our surroundings. It's amazing how easy it is to navigate around complete darkness with just a little practice.

Overnight

Volleyball takes over 17 lives this fall quarter. My team and I travel almost every weekend to play in different tournaments that consist of about nine teams sometimes more, sometimes less. Normally after the first day of playing is over we head back to the hotel and begin our hours of homework.

On the Road

This weekend my volleyball team and I traveled to Clarkson University for a two day tournament. I wish I had some time to shoot some of my film around the town here. There were some good landscapes that would have been perfect for our film assignment, but we were constantly on the go. I took this photo with my phone during the drive home last night.

Dark Room

This week in my Elements of Fine Art Photography class we are learning the ins and outs of the darkroom. We don't actually have to deal with any chemicals because we have a lovely machine to do it for us. However we have learned to make contact sheets as well as individual prints by using the enlarger seen above. I am enjoying this film assignment a lot more than I thought I was going to. I may also consider doing more assignments in film in my future classes.

Jean-Marie Vives

Recently I discovered Jean- Marie. She does paintings as well as photographs. Looking through some of her photos I discovered some of them had a theme similar to our landscape project. A lot of her photographs express the idea of what we (humans) are destroying.

Waiting

This afternoon I was waiting for my room mate to finish up with a meeting and I was waiting near a tractor. I looked up for a minute at the rain and came across this.

Some more...

Soccer Bananza

The past couple days I've been attending quite a few soccer games supporting my friends. I've gotten a couple good shots that I thought I would share.
